Asan Barrage Beautiful Place Near Dehradun

Asan Barrage was created in 1967 and it is popularly known as Dhalipur Lake. The lake attracts a large number of waterfowls, as well as woodland and scrubland birds that visit the nearby Sal forests. Asan Barrage is connected to Dehradun, 38 km away by a highway, on the way to Paonta Sahib. Wildlife lovers have an added bonus during the winter season as migratory birds can be seen in the vicinity. It has 53 species of water birds, including 19 winter migrants from Eurasia. A flock of 25- 40 painted storks can be seen in these months every year.

Asan has been the nesting site of the Pallas Fishing Eagle every winter for more than 30 years. The barrage also serves as a winter passage halt for trans-Himalayan migratory birds. The Asan reservoir exists throughout the year and is fed from the river Asan and the discharge channel of Yamuna through Dhalipur powerhouse. Although the water level is controlled, it often goes down, and swampy islands in the middle become visible, attracting a variety of marsh-loving birds like Egrets, Herons and Lapwings, etc.

Santaula Devi Temple Beautiful Place Near Dehradun

This temple is about 15 Kms from dehradun. The temple stands as a symbol of the faith people have in the temple and has a great cultural and religious significance. One can use the facility of Jeep or bus to Jaitanwala and then it is a journey to Punjabiwala by sharing jeep and Taxis. The remaining 1-2 Kms by trekking. It is believed that Santla Devi and her brother, on realizing that they would not be able to face the advancing Mughal Army, abandoned their weapons and began to pray. Soon, a light flickered and within moments they both were transformed into stone images.
