Bhairon Valley in Gangotri

Bhairon Ghati or Bhairon Valley is located en route Uttarkashi, at a distance of 9 km from Gangotri. It is famous for its Bhairavnath Temple. The Bhairav Nath temple is in the midst of forests. It is a tourist attraction. One has to cross the Jahanvi River on foot. After crossing the Jahanvi River and moving uphill, the Bhairon temple can be seen.

Gangotri Temple In Gangotri

The 20 ft high temple is made of white granite. The temple at Gangotri was built by a Gorkha commander, Amar Singh Thapa, in the early 18th century and later rebuilt by the Maharaja of Jaipur. Ganga is believed to have touched earth at this spot. It is said that Raja Bhagirath used to worship Lord Shiva at the sacred stone nearby.
