Food Guide In Haridwar

Non-Veg Dishes (Meat, fish, and eggs) are banned within the city limits, so there are only vegetarian restaurants.

Bestee Restaurant, Shiv Murti area, near the Hotel Panama, serves Chinese, shakes, breakfast and South Indian food.
Hotel Hoshiyar Puri, on the main road by Hari-ki-Pairi ghat, is one of the busiest thali places in town and is over 50 years old.
Satkar, Vishnu Ghat, has good Indian and Chinese food.
Chotiwala Restaurant, opposite the Tourist Office, is popular and recommended. It is one of the best places in town. It has good thalis.
Siwalik Restaurant, a few shops down from Chotiwala Restaurant, makes good Gujarati and South Indian food.
Ahaar, Upper Rd, near Chotiwala, is a medium-priced place serving very good Continental, Punjabi, and Chinese meals. The last three places are probably the best places in town and are recommended.
Mohan’s Fast Food, near the Chitra Cinema, Railway Rd, has veggie burgers, pizzas and Gujarati food. It has a good selection of ice cream. The owner, Sanjeev Mehta, is a helpful and friendly person.
Hotel Mansarover International has a good restaurant, but is more expensive than the other places.
Bride Mathura Walla sweet shop, in the middle of Bara Bazaar, has an excellent selection of good Indian sweets.

Jwalapur In Haridwar

Bara Bazaar In Haridwar

This planetary position is said to medicate the waters of Ganga at a particular spot called Har ki pauri on the banks of River Ganges in Haridwar, and turns it into nectar on these days, thereby attracting millions to purify their inner-self through holy bathing rituals.

Ardh Kumbh Fair in Haridwar

Ardh Kumbh Mela is held every sixth year after a Maha Kumbh Mela that takes place every 12 years, when a large number of pilgrims and devotees converge to commemorate this divine event. According to mythology, ‘Devas’ (Gods) and ‘Asuras’ (Demons) churned the ocean to obtain Nectar and when the coveted ‘Kumbha’ (pitcher) of Nectar (Amrita) which gave immortality was obtained from the depths of ocean, one of the ‘Devas’ whisked away the ‘Kumbha’ from the ‘Asuras’ and evading from the ‘Asuras’, stopped at four places viz. Hardwar, Allahabad (Prayag), Nasik and Ujjain before he finally arrived into the safety of heaven. It is believed that a dip in the holy river Ganga during the Ardh Kumbh gives one Moksha or Nirvana. Ardha Kumbh also attracts a large number of people to take the holy dip during these holy days.

Parmath Ashram: It is 24 Kms. to upstream from haridwar and also 6 kms on the way to Rishikesh which is known as the “City of the Divine” - is a spiritual center to which sages, rishis, saints and pilgrims have flocked for millennia. Parmarth Niketan is a spiritual haven, resting serenely on the banks of the holy Ganga (Ganges), nestled in the lap of the Himalayas. The ashram houses a beautiful image of Goddess Durga. The ashram offers comfort, inspiration and upliftment for body, mind and spirit as well as a deeper connection with the Divine.

Manavkalyan Ashram: It has statues of 12 ‘avtars’ of God. Here one can see the different images of lord and it is also believed that once a person goes and stay for some time in this ashram he will be blessed.

Doodhadari: It is about 6 kms from haridwar, it is famous for its Hanuman and Raghvendra Temples.

Saptrishi Ashram: The Ganges flows in seven streams in front of this Ashram, hence this place is also called Sapt Sarovar. It is said that Saptrishis (Seven sages) trapped the Ganga and agreed to release the River on King Bhagirathas request. The Ashram commemorates the event. This is about 5 km north of Hari ki pauri, where the Ganga had to split into seven streams to avoid the displeasure of Sapta Rishis.
