Magh Mela In UttarKashi

Magh mela takes places on the occasion of makar Sankranti (January) in Uttarkashi every year. Magha Mela is celebrated here on every January 14 when devotees take holy dip in Bhagirathi. At present, Jila Panchayat organizes the fair with the help of district administration. The town hosts a colorful fair, when deities are borne aloft into the town on palanquins from outlying villages. It is an important event of the district from the religious, cultural and commercial points of view. A large number of local people and tourists participate in the mela, with many pouring in from different parts of Kumaon, Garhwal and other parts of Uttar Pradesh. There is dancing and singing. The fair continues for about a week.

Gaumukh Holy Place UttarKashi

This is the source of the Ganga River and a very popular pilgrimage destination so devouts who do not miss the opportunity to have a holy dip in the bone chilling icy water. It is 18 kms from Gangotri. The trek is easy and at times people come back to Gangotri on the same day. There is a tourist bungalow at bhojbasa which is 14 kms away from gangaotri where visitors can stay and do relax over at the same time.

Nachiketa Tal near UttarKashi

Nachiketa, the devout son of saint Uddalak, is said to have created this lake hence got this name. The greenery all around Nachiketa Taal is enchanting and there is a small temple on the site of this lake gives it a more serene look. It is about 2310 Meters above the sea level. This beautiful retreat is surrounded by dense forests. Nachiketa Tal is at a distance of 29 kilometres east of Uttarkashi, there is a village named Chaurangi Khal. From here, a short walk of 3 km takes you to pretty but small lake named Nachiketa Tal. There is no accommodation facility for visitors, have can either come back to Uttarkashi or stay at the PWD Inspection House at Chaurangi Khal.

Yamuna Temple Near UttarKashi

Yamuna temple is situated in yamunotri which is the origin of the sacred river Yamuna. This main temple is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. The present temple was built by Maharani Guleria of Jaipur in the late nineteenth century. A holy dip in the nearby tank filled by hot springs and cooking rice in its water are common rituals performed by the devotees. It was destroyed twice in the present century and rebuilt again. The temple remains closed from November to April/ May.

Govind National Park in UttarKashi

Govind Wildlife Sanctuary Was established in the year 1955 in Uttarkashi district of state Uttaranchal. Shakti Temple In UttarKashi

Shakti temple is very near to Vishwanath temple. A big Trishul which is about 6 meters in height and a circumference of 90 cms in this temple is the centre of attraction. Vishwanath Temple In UttarKashi

Vishwanath temple is an ancient temple. It is devoted to Lord Shiva and is situated approx. 300 meters away from the local bus stand at Uttarkashi.
