Govind National Park in UttarKashi

Govind Wildlife Sanctuary Was established in the year 1955 in Uttarkashi district of state Uttaranchal. It spreads over an area of 953 sq. km, the park offers everything from wildlife, rare birds to snow capped peaks and glaciers. There are approximately 150 varieties of birds in the park. The animals consist mainly of Himalayan wildlife.

Shakti Temple In UttarKashi

Shakti temple is very near to Vishwanath temple. A big Trishul which is about 6 meters in height and a circumference of 90 cms in this temple is the centre of attraction. Different people hold different views about the trishul, it is widely believed that the trishul is made of iron in the upper part and copper in the lower part. The epics say that this trishul was thrown at devils by goddess Durga.

Vishwanath Temple In UttarKashi

Vishwanath temple is an ancient temple. It is devoted to Lord Shiva and is situated approx. 300 meters away from the local bus stand at Uttarkashi. It is told that this temple was established by Parasuram and was renovated by Maharani Khaneti, wife of Sudarshan Shah in 1857. The temple has a Shivling, 60 cms high and 90 cms in circumference. No one misses this holy shrine on their trip to Uttarkashi. People from all over India also visit the Vishvanath temple during their visits to Uttarkashi, Gangotri and Yamunotri.

Bhairon Ghati In UttarKashi

Bhaironghati is situated on the way to uttarkashi near the confluence of Jat Ganga and Bhagirathi Rivers is Bhairon Ghati. It is a place where one can stay and enjoy the mountainous landscape. A temple of Bhairon Devta here is visited by scores of pilgrims. The awe-inspiring lofty peaks, deep gorge of Jahnavi and Bhagirathi rivers with a bridge at a considerable altitude from river level flowing below and the towering deodar trees provide a rare natural bonanza.

NIM has completed 40 years of existence. Over the years, thousands of Indians and hundreds of Foreigners have passed through the portals of this great Institution. The aim of the Institute is to introduce and initiate young men, women and school children to the mountains and nature through its various Mountaineering and Adventure training courses. The proposal to have Mountaineering Institute at Uttarkashi was mooted by the Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India and Govt. of U.P. in 1964. The Nehru Institute of Mountaineering was established at Uttarkashi on 14 Nov 1965 to honor the great desire of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, who was an ardent mountain lover.

Yamunotri In UttarKashi

The shrine of Yamunotri, source of river Yamuna is situated in the direction opposite to Gangotri and the road bifurcates and goes to Yamunotri from Dharasu, a place between Rishikesh - Uttarkashi. It is situated at an elevation of 3235 metres above sea level. The shrine of yamunotri is one of the four chardhams of Uttarkhand. There are hot springs close to the temple, a bath in them is very refreshing after a tedious 13 kms. trek from Hanuman Chatti or 5 kms from Janaki Chatti. Pilgrims can find accommodation in the houses belonging to the “Pandas” or the sole Dharamshala.

Nandan-Van Tapovan in UttarKashi

Nandanvan Tapovan is situated opposite to the gangotri glacier at a distance of 6 Kms. from gangotri. Visitors can have a superb view of the majestic Shivling peak. Nandanvan is the base camp for the Bhagirathi peaks, while after a trek across the Gangotri Glacier you reach Tapovan where the beautiful meadows are a breathtaking sight. There are ideal spots for camping and also provides base camps for Bhagirathi, Shivling, Meru, Kedardom, Kharchakund, Satopant, Kalindi Khal and many other snow peaks.

Kedartal is a beautiful lake and situated at an altitude of 4425 meters above sea level. The lake is crystal clear with the mighty Thalayasagar (spahatikling) peak forming a splendid backdrop. Kedartal, an enchanting lake situated 18 km from Gangotri, is nature’s answer to those craving for a splendid vacation in scenic resplendence. It is a small glacial lake surrounded by the Meru Pithwara and Bhrigupathi hills. The trek is very tiring and there are testing moments even for a hardy trekker.

Gangotri in UttarKashi
