Surya Kund In Yamunotri

Surya Kund is the most important and sacred thermal spring of Yamunotri amongst the cluster of thermal springs in the vicinity of the temple which flows into numerous pools. The pool is named after Surya or the sun god, the father of Yamuna. It has a temperature of almost 190 Degree F. Yamuna Devi Temple In Yamunotri

History of Yamunotri

Yamunotri is the first stopover for the “Char Dham” pilgrimage. Yamunotri is situated opposite to Gangotri. The road bifurcates from a place called Dharasu, somewhere between Rishikesh-Uttarkashi and goes on to Yamunotri. Yamunotri is the source of the holy river Yamuna that originates from the Champasar Glacier lying 1 km ahead of the shrine. Mountains on all sides flank Yamunotri and the scenic beauty of the place are enough to mesmerize a person. A unique feature of Yamunotri shrine is the way the Prasad is prepared. Raw rice and potatoes are tied in cloth bags and then cooked by dipping them in a hot water pool situated near the shrine.
